Overview
More than 6 hours of video training on IP Multicast technologies and configuration. The workshop covers a solid understanding of IP Multicast technologies across Cisco IOS, IOS XE, and NX-OS product families.
Description
IP Multicast Fundamentals LiveLessons (Workshop) is an engaging and unique video course taught in front of a live audience. Ron Fuller, a double CCIE in Routing and Switching and Storage Area Networking, and co-author of NX-OS and Cisco Nexus Switching: Next-Generation Data Center Architectures, teaches you the skills you need to understand IP Multicast and its configuration across multiple Cisco platforms.
This workshop starts with an overview of IP Multicast before moving on to Layer 2 of the OSI reference model with a discussion of Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP). Ron then moves on to Layer 3 and a review of Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM). The workshop then dives into a discussion of options for Rendezvous Point (RP) engineering before focusing on controlling multicast traffic. Ron then shifts focus to Source Specific Multicast (SSM) before concluding with a discussion of IPv6 and Multicast.
This workshop is a digital download. A streaming version is also available for purchase here: http://www.informit.com/store/ip-multicast-fundamentals-9780134176550.
Skill Level
The students should be beginner to intermediate.
What You Will Learn
An easy-to-use and cost-effective means to learn the various concepts associated with IP Multicast technologies.
Who Should Take This Course
The target audience for this video workshop is the network engineer or operator. The secondary audience is help desk analysts or network administrators as well as certification candidates.
Course Requirements
These LiveLessons assume common knowledge of Cisco IOS and network switching and routing theory. The typical student should have at least a CCNA certification and be responsible for configuration and day-to-day operations of networks.

Lesson 1: Introduction to IP Multicast
This lesson provides a foundation for the rest of the course with a discussion of multicast. Topics include application usage, addressing, distribution trees, reverse path forwarding, and state.
Lesson 2: Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)
This lesson covers the Layer 2 component of multicast, IGMP, including a review of the operation of both IGMPv2 and IGMPv3, followed by configuration examples.
Lesson 3: Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM)
This lesson goes into detail on Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) and its various modes. Coverage includes PIM dense, sparse, source specific multicast (SSM), and BiDirectional (BiDir) modes, compared and contrasted with configuration examples.
Lesson 4: Rendezvous Point (RP) Engineering
This lesson covers the topic of Rendezvous Points (RP) and the role they play in a multicast network. The lesson focuses on RP redundancy using Anycast, MSDP, and Anycast-PIM, complemented with configurations.
Lesson 5: Controlling Multicast Traffic
This lesson reviews the important topic of control mechanisms for multicast traffic. The lesson covers both L2 and L3 controls and provides configuration examples.
Lesson 6: Source Specific Multicast (SSM)
This lesson covers the mechanics and benefits of SSM and provides configurations in IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS.
Lesson 7: IPv6 and Multicast
This lesson begins with a high-level overview of IPv6 with a focus on IPv6 multicasting capabilities, multicast addressing, and Rendezvous Points. The lesson concludes with sample IOS, IOS-XE, and NX-OS configurations.
