Summary
MPLS TE is the technology that brings the capability to tightly control the allocation of traffic trunks to paths in your IP network. The networks that benefit most from this technology are the networks where some links are overloaded; whereas some other links could be used, but are not because of the limitations of IP routing. These links are underutilized. The technology is equally viable in router-only networks and in networks where the connections between the routers are implemented with virtual circuits leased from a third party. Therefore, both large enterprise and service provider networks can benefit from MPLS TE deployment.
Last, but not least, MPLS TE is one of the technologies that you must master if you want to pass the CCIE® Communications & Services lab exam (see www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/ccie/certifications/services.html for more information).
